We hear more about the European theaters because theyre more directly connected to us. But it truly was a world war.
Tbf, the land war was mainly in Europe, North Africa and East and South East Asia. Most allied countries in Africa were colonies at the time and of the top of my head only Brazil is a South American country that actually sent troops to Europe (Smoking Snakes). But naval warfare was truly global
People say this more about WWI (though even that did see fighting in the Levant, Far East, and Africa) Also, a lot of these countries only declared war on Germany/Japan when 1) it became clear they would inevitably lose and 2) the Allies and particularly American threatened that there would be no place in the UN for countries which did not declare war. Remember, the United Nations - not the Allies - was actually the preferred term (especially by Roosevelt) for the nations fighting Germany at the time. It had to be argued, for instance, that neutral Denmark was deserved the status of a member of the anti-Hitler coalition because of the existence of a few Danish partisans. This was a really a legal fiction.
