Here in Sweden I remember reading a story about a hustomte (house elf) that went something like this. Every Christmas, a farmer would bring a bowl of rice porridge with sugar and cinnamon to the barn and leave it for the hustomte. This year, they didnt have and sugar and cinnamon, so he put some butter on the porridge instead. The hustomte came out when he left and saw that there wasnt any sugar and cinnamon, so he killed the farmers cow. But since he was hungry he ate of the porridge anyway and realised it was still tasty. So he swapped the dead cow with the neighbors cow. And that was the end of the story.

German fairy tale enters the chat. Spoiler Das Lumpengesindel (the assholes (?)) Basically has the moral of be an asshole and youll be fine. In the same vein we have the saying Unkraut vergeht nicht which basically means weeds dont die (weeds as opposed to medicinal herbs and grains and such).
