With [Taft elected](https://www.reddit.com/r/HistoryMemes/s/pL57ISJwne), the navy gave Theodore Roosevelt a going-away present by getting the battleship fleet home just days before he left the White House. He joined the scores of thousands who flocked to Hampton Roads on George Washingtons birthday to witness the return of the warships from their fourteen-month voyage. Civilian vessels of all sizes and states of seaworthiness braved squally skies and rough water to watch the white ships (already slated to be scraped and repainted a less gaudy gray) materialize out of the mist on the eastern horizon. Roosevelt welcomed the battleships as he had sent them out, from the rail of the Mayflower. He received another simultaneous salute from all the big guns, then twenty-one more from each ship as it steamed past the presidential yacht. The column of vessels stretched more than seven miles; the thunder of the guns-answered by return salutes from the armada of onlookers-filled the better part of an hour. The president nearly burst with patriotic pride. This is the first battle fleet that has ever circumnavigated the globe, he reminded the officers and men, speaking from the deck of the admirals flagship. Those who perform the feat again can but follow in your footsteps. With censorship lifted, scores of papers had sent correspondents; all agreed that the president had never been so triumphant. One journal aptly captioned the occasion the apotheosis of Roosevelt, the one supreme, magnificent moment of his career. Source: T.R., The Last Romantic: Pages 636-637

Least absurdly cool and patriotic Theodore Roosevelt moment lol

I used to think Oh, well Teddy just seems crazy by modern standards, but then I read a book, cant remember the title, about when he was out west cattle-ranching, and basically every account of people who met him was like, Yeah, there was this little short guy with glasses who talked funny and was batshit insane...
