Although, one wonders if War and Peace would have been as highly acclaimed as it was had it been published under its original title: War, What Is It Good For?. It was his mistress who insisted that he call it War and Peace.
She was heavily abused by the husband. Also, Tolstoy tends to save paper, and his writings were dence, harsh and hard to read even to him. He tended to put lot of marks right on top. Just imagine read and copy-write it. 4 tomes several times. And his wife also re-whrote most of his diaries and novels. I strongly recommend to read her diaries to understand the fate of a wife behind.
