Why does this smiling Napoleon look so disturbing
It turns out that over sixty different countries have declared independence from the British Empire at one point or another, and *our* such case was far from the most notable or the most crippling. It would be far too time-consuming and repetitive for English kids to be given an in-depth overview of every single one, so if The American war for independence (as its called there) is ever brought up at all, its usually in a neutral light as simply a taxation policy gone wrong (though personally I think its better served when used as an example of how poorly-structured parliamentary representation was at the time), one which they generally blame King George for, the same as us. (for what its worth, George actually had very little to do with those tax policies, which were almost entirely Parliaments fault. History *really* did that man dirty.)
