Honestly the voyage is even funnier than the battle. Drachinifel did a long episode on it
[The Battle of Tsushima](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Tsushima) could best be described as a slaughter. I’m sure some of you are already familiar with the absolutely comical journey that the Russian Baltic Fleet took to reach East Asia but if you haven’t, [enjoy](https://youtu.be/yzGqp3R4Mx4?si=UXHZsrScBy_3VI-W). The withered Russian fleet, upon making said taxing journey over 7 months, was promptly decimated by a Japanese force under Admiral [Tōgō Heihachirō](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tōgō_Heihachirō). The main Russian admiral surrendered, and what was supposed to be the turning of Moscow’s misfortunes instead amplified them. From the Baltic Fleet’s departure, to its arrival and destruction at Tsushima, the entire trek was watched closely by international powers. Many expected a Russian victory, few thought the Japanese may give a good fight, none expected the sheer carnage. One observer was President Theodore Roosevelt, who was as shocked as the rest. Watching the war since it’s [beginning](https://www.reddit.com/r/HistoryMemes/s/80wVyuynPG), he was personally hoping Japan would do a number on the Tsar’s forces. TR had thought the Japanese might hold their own, but he certainly didnt expect them to smash the Russians so thoroughly. No one anticipated that it would be a rout and a slaughter rather than a fight, he told Henry Cabot Lodge, that the Russian fleet would be absolutely destroyed while the Japanese fleet was left practically uninjured. This climactic battle convinced all parties that the fighting had gone just about far enough. The Russians finally realized that they werent going to win back what they had lost; the Japanese believed they had proved their point and didnt want to overreach; the European powers hoped for a quick settlement that would preserve at least some semblance of a balance in northeastern Asia. To be fair to Rozhestvensky. He had to get that mess around the world, and was planning on running into a Russian port, to refit, repair, and work up the crew. He had to pick between the shorter western route, through the proverbial Japanese front yard, and longer eastern route through the Japanse backyard. Not an easy thing to do.
