In 1819 Francisco Goyas purchased a house near Madrid. Initially he filled the walls with inspirational paintings and murals. However as time progressed he began painting over them with more dark and horrifying imagery. Its believed he did this as he was haunted by memories of War and the Spanish inquisition. This particular painting/mural was done in the dining room and portrays the god Saturn devouring his Son. A much more brutal take on the myth of the God Saturn eating his children to prevent the fulfilling of a prophecy where his children would usurp his power.

Finally, Reddit getting the Goya content it needs. If you ever get a chance to view the entirety of Disasters of War do it .

I love that painting. The eyes are something Ive been fascinated with since Highschool. The sheer maddness in them always drove home how monstrous even Saturn knew he was.
