Early firearms in the 16th century were slow to reload, inaccurate, and prone to misfires. To compensate, some weaponsmiths in Europe experimented with hybrid weapons like gun-swords, a pistol attached to a blade so you could fire once before closing into melee combat. This particular Czech example takes the idea even further. The blade is engraved with a calendar of saints, allowing the owner to track feast days throughout the year. So in one weapon you had a pistol, a sword and a liturgical calendar. Peak early modern multitasking.
