Are you sure that’s the case? I feel it’s more common that people in general just struggle to mentally conceptualize the gradual, incremental changes that took place which led to the massive societal shifts. I feel like if you gave people these exact dates for the “fall of Rome” and immediate aftermath, they’d be more likely to imagine something transitionary. But if you just vaguely say “Late Roman Empire” or “early medieval period”, they will probably imagine the above two.

Agreed. Far too much colour on the right panel. We all know the ancient period was mostly white cokours everywhere (except Roman soldiers who always wore red), medieval period was mostly brown and dark shades of colour, and things didnt brighten up until the renaissance.
