Explanation: The Prussian General Staff thought the lessons of the American Civil War were difficult to apply to Europe. They iirc thought the main reason the war lasted so long was because McClellan was an idiot. Some lessons were taken from Grants strategy, specifically about better use of railways and the importance of industrialization. Pressing on despite big losses, knowing you have the political will to replenish them, was also taken.

This was more or less the conclusion of every European observer of the American Civil War: the importance of industrial output was appreciated as was the need to absorb losses and carry on if you want to win but beyond that it was assumed that given the nature of the opposite armies (comparatively small volunteer forces especially at the beginning) and Americas vast size (and ensuing logistics complications) few other lessons were applicable to Europe with its much shorter distances and where large conscription-based militaries were the norm. One thing that was noted though was the effectiveness of rifled artillery.

To be fair two things can be true.
