Another myth this sub loves to throw around. Nazis werent appalled by the brutality because they suddenly developed sensitivity but because they knew Croats made little effort to hide it (unlike Nazis) which will in turn lead to more pissed off locals and NDH being incapable of handling it it will be up to Germans to do it, requiring even more troops they could ill afford to not have in Russia.

Context: Croatias fascist party, *Ustaše,* took the Nazis Holocaust baton and ran with it. Chronically short on ammunition, *Ustaše* did much of their killing by hand, which appalled German officers. To give you an idea, heres an account from General von Horstanau, Hitlers envoy to Croatia, of the aftermath of a village massacre near an *Ustaše* concentration camp: >In Crkveni Bok, an unfortunate place, over which about five hundred 15- to 20-year-old thugs descended under the leadership of an Ustasha lieutenant colonel, people were killed everywhere, women were raped and then tortured to death, children were killed. I saw in the Sava River the corpse of a young woman with her eyes dug out and a stake driven into her sexual parts. This woman was at most twenty years old when she fell into the hands of these monsters. All around, pigs devoured unburied human beings. Fortunate” residents were shipped in terrifying freight cars; many of these involuntary travelers cut their veins during transport to the camp \[Jasenovac\] In all, 32,000 Jews, 25,000 Roma, and 320,000 Serbs were killed in the Croatian Holocaust.
