Context: In December 1386 in Falaise, France, a pig was officially arrested for injuring a child. Instead of just slaughtering the animal, the medieval authorities held a full, formal legal trial. The pig was kept in prison, brought to court with assigned lawyers, found guilty, and sentenced to death. To make the execution official, the pig was dressed up in human clothes (a jacket, breeches, and gloves) before being hanged in the town square.
