#Maze Prison England created the Prevention of Terrorism Act, a law that allowed the British government to arrest and imprison without trial hundreds of Irish nationalists suspected of having ties to the IRA, a forerunner of the Patriot Act. They were held in the Maze Prison, in the infamous “H-Blocks.” Their main demand was to be recognized as political prisoners. In 1981, after years of the “blanket protest,” during which the inmates wore only blankets, they launched a hunger strike led by Bobby Sands to regain their former rights, including the right to wear their own clothes. They also began the “dirty protest,” refusing hygiene because the guards would not empty the toilets, covering the cell walls with excrement in defiance. Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher maintained a hard line — as was typical for her. To her, “crime is crime is crime”: there was no difference between a republican activist and an ordinary criminal. Despite the deaths of Bobby Sands and nine other hunger strikers, she refused any political concession. The government eventually relaxed some rules: prisoners were allowed to receive civilian clothing, but the prison administration provided ridiculous “civilian” outfits — brightly patterned trousers, gaudy shirts, intentionally designed to humiliate them. In the years that followed, the policy was corrected: inmates were allowed proper civilian clothes, either provided by or approved through their families, but no formal recognition of political status was ever granted. (***And no, that’s not a Warhammer prison in the background, it’s just England, though confusion is understandable*** 🥸)

The more I learn about Thatcher, the more I hate her

Unrelated but what are the background pics? Looks like Dishonored but Im not sure
