                    Harold Hardrada: Hold my Beer
Sigurd Jorsalfar, born Sigurd Magnusson in 1089, was the King of Norway from 1103 to 1130. He ruled, alongside his half-brothers Øystein and Olaf. He is best known for being the first European king to personally lead a crusade, earning him his famous nickname. In 1107, Sigurd set sail with a fleet of 60 ships and around 5,000 men. His journey to the Holy Land was a four-year-long military campaign known as the Norwegian Crusade. Along the way, his forces battled and defeated Muslim pirates and raiders in Spain, Portugal and the Balearic Islands. Along the journey, he would also make stops in Norman England and Italy. Upon reaching the Kingdom of Jerusalem in 1110, he was welcomed by King Baldwin I. Sigurd and his men joined forces with the Crusaders to successfully capture the coastal city of Sidon. For his service, Sigurd was given a relic of the True Cross. After his crusade, Sigurd would travel to the capital of the Byzantine Empire - Constantinople. Some of his men would leave him and join the famed Varangian Guard. He would return to Norway by land by the age of 20, completing his expedition. Sigurd would rule Norway for 27 years, becoming mad at the later stages of his life
