Cut my dude some slack. He was doin pretty well in his little league. Not really his fault he got invaded by the apex predator of the era.
I appreciate the meme, OP, but you can be a good ruler and a terrible general. If a ruler is a good diplomat and paved the way for a great future of his people, he can still be great. And there is some nuance to losing wars. If the opponent only achieves a phyrric victory and you inflicted enough damage to deterr them from attacking again, it can be a somewhat okay result, even if a victory is preferrable. And depending on who is your opponent, there is sometimes no way you can win, so you gotta try to get the best out of it
[Tigranes II, also known as Tigranes the great](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tigranes_the_Great) greatly expanded the kingdom of Armenia, but then the Romans came and inflicted humiliating defeats upon the Armenian king of kings, such as [battle of tigranocerta](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Tigranocerta) and later [battle of artaxata](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Artaxata), these 2 were the only recorded field battles of tigranes. So Ive read some comments and it seems like some people are misinterpreting what Im saying. Im not saying that he was a bad ruler because he lost all his recorded battles, Im saying that you wouldnt expect someone who is considered to be the greatest ruler of a country to lose all his recorded battles and be subjugated by a seemingly smaller force. It just seems silly to be considered the greatest, but lose so much of your progress and not even be able to maintain your independence.
