Point aint which is more powerful. Point is which is more easily replaced.
Congrats, you fell for a 600 year old piece of propaganda. The battle of Agincourt had little to nothing do to with crossbows vs. Longbows. Highly simplified: Henry V was outnumbered and knew it, so he tricked the french into attacking on his terms: His infantry in the center, bowmen in trees left and right. Henry wore his his pimped-out royal flashy surcoat so everyone could see that he was RIGHT THERE. The french, knowing they massively outnumbered them, charged across a muddy field without waiting. They wore mostly heavy plate, many got injured and killed by the english longbows (they could hit them in the side where there would be little or no armor, or injure them eith arrow shrapnel). Against common belief, english longbow could not penetrate heavy plate from the front, not even from point blank range with bodkin arrows (Tods Workshop has a great episode on this on YT). Also, all the French nobles were very horny for the honor and cash bounty of capturing or killing the English King, who made sure he was easy to spot. When the Frech arrived at the english line, they were exhausted, injured and caked in mud; the english troops were rested and cut them to pieces. Once the bowmen ran out of arrows, they attacked the flanks of the French assault. Exhausted, with their dead literally piling up, surrounded and unable to retreat, the French surrendered. Henry then ran away as fast as he could (after executing most of the surrendered French troops) and had the rumor spread that english longbows are essentially magic superweapons that dont care about armor, to make the French think twice before trying to go after him. Agincourt was won by proper tactics, choosing the right spot for a battle and psychological warfare. BUT STILL: Longbows are still superior to crossbows, but they require years of training. You can learn to properly shoot a crossbow in a day, but good luck fighting longbowmen who can fire 5-6 times faster. Edit: Im bad at math
Yeah, cause obviously it prove crossbow sucks. The defeat is absolutely not due to dumbass knights having 0 discipline, or to mercenary who never learned to protect their stuff from rain.
