It depends which part of Scotland you’re talking about. The urbanised, Anglicised, majority Presbyterian lowlands of Scotland (Edinburgh, Glasgow and the surrounding areas) benefitted from the Union from the word go and always had oversized political and economic clout in the British Empire. Meanwhile, the rural, Gaelic, majority Catholic/ Episcopalian highlands definitely was oppressed in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries both by the British government after the Jacobite uprisings and by the clan chiefs who evicted their tenant farmers so they could live like the gentry down south.
Linking the Jacobites to Home Rule is pretty disingenous. The core goal of the 1745 campaign was to impose Charles Edward Stuart on the throne of a united Great Britain not to divide Scotland from England.
Scottish nationalists want to be Irish so damn badly.
