The year was 1969 and the U.S. was doing great. The moon landing just occurred giving America the big win in the space race so everyone was happy. Until Henry Kissinger came in and informed the U.S. government a month after the moon landing that he had gotten word that the USSR was planning a nuclear strike on China. In the East, the Sino-Soviet split was escalating fast. Troops were skirmishing on the border between China and Russia and after a notable incident, the Soviet Government began planning to hit China with a couple nukes they had been saving for the West. China gained word of the plan and began moving troops to the border and evacuating government officials to nuclear bunkers in Beijing. Soviet troops were also moving to the border along with planes possibly containing nukes continuing the Cuban Missile Crisis of the East. The U.S. finally intervened in the conflict and Nixon told the Soviets that if they were to strike China, American nukes would rain down on them after they used all theirs up. After a month, the Chinese and Soviets decided to calm down and open up negotiations before they obliterated each other and the situation cooled down. China would continue to remember this event and went through the 1970s building nuclear bunkers and increasing their nuclear arsenal to attempt to match the soviets. While the USSR and America would go through a period of detente to ease tensions. (Also I know the pixels suck, but it keeps doing that whenever I post it ok)
