At one point the majority of IRA funding came from the USA, the descendants of Irish immigrants whod never been to Ireland and had no idea what things were actually like there. They mostly thought they were sticking to the English, not paying for bombs that exploded Irish mothers and their children. Ive met a few ex-IRA and former Ulster Men in my time - my godfather and his brother were briefly with the IRA in Belfast - and they all now condemn the fighting and bloodshed. No romanticising of it for them.
