Grenadiers in the Napoleonic Era were specialist soldiers, chosen for their height and strength for chucking grenades as far as they could. As grenades became less useful on the battlefield, the weapon fell out of use but the title remained for the largest and strongest troops, used for vanguard actions or heavy cavalry. Grenadiers became known for their tall mitres and then bearskin caps, that made them appear even larger and more intimidating, both on the parade ground and the battlefield.
Everyone has tactics and skill until a 6’5” dude with a bearskin hat is rushing them with a bayonet.
I’ve literally never met anyone that has said “size and strength have no intrinsic value in combat.” I genuinely refuse to believe that’s a thing anyone realistically believes. There’s kind of a reason militaries do insane amounts of strength and stamina building as part of boot camps.
