Context:during the Great Depression Keynes argued to bring the “idle” gold present in India to Britain which would be used to increase the liquidity in the economy. They would buy cheap in India and sell them in London. In the next 6 years 13,37,000kg was sold roughly a fourth of India’s reserves which were collected over 4 centuries. In the end Britain was one of the first to emerge out of depression and in hindsight economists call this gold as distress gold because the it was sold by peasants who could pay the debt and it didn’t helped that due to glut in food production in 1920s caused crop prices to crash.

Its disgusting the UK never apologized for 1919 massacre at Jallianwala Bagh, The Bengal Famines etc and on top of that keep everything it stole in the British Museum.

But but but trains!
