During the Cold War East Germany implemented a state-sponsored doping program to dominate international sports. Beginning in the 1960s, the government systematically administered performance-enhancing drugs, especially anabolic steroids, to thousands of athletes often without their knowledge. This program, known as State Plan 14.25, aimed to showcase the superiority of the socialist system through athletic success and help in their desire for international diplomatic recognition of the GDR. East German athletes achieved remarkable results and placed 2nd in medals count in multiples olympics that they participated in and even placed 1st in the Winter Olypmics 1984, despite only being a nation of 16 million people. After the fall of the Berlin Wall documents and testimonies exposed the extent of the doping program.

Yeah I only found out who State sponsored doping was common for East Germany back then. Even in 76 Games in Canada, one of the coaches said “That if he didn’t throw the tainted pee samples in the River, he and his entire family will be arrested by the Stazi” Some were aware of being doped while some didn’t like an Olympic competitor who was unable to have children and only found out years later cause she was doped. I really wanna know how many of the Olympic medals from the past are legit woth so much doping back then.
