Well putain is the fancy french word that refers to a prostitute. But it is also our equivalent of fuck. It can express frustration, excitement, surprise, anger or just to emphasis a certain word. Just like fuck in English refers to intercourse or you could say fuck yeah or I lost my fucking keys and it has nothing to do with sex. Thanks for listening to my TED talk
