Wojtek was a Syrian brown bear adopted by soldiers of the Polish II Corps after they left the Soviet Union in 1942. During the Italian Campaign, especially around Monte Cassino, he became famous for carrying heavy ammunition crates alongside the troops. To officially transport him on military ships and keep him with the unit, the bear was enlisted as “Private Wojtek,” later promoted to corporal. His image carrying an artillery shell eventually became the emblem of the 22nd Artillery Supply Company.

Truely a naturalized Polish Citizen (For context, Wojtek is a Syrian Brown Bear from Iran.)

Not only Wotjek carry munitions but boosted morale among soldiers during the Battle of Monte Cassino
