Context since OP’s too lazy to post it. A major part of the final assault by the Turks in 1453 is a possibly apocryphal story that a small postern gate called the Kerkoporta was left open after a sally by the defenders (usually blamed on the Venetian contingent), allowing Turkish forces to stream in from there alongside the main breach. *1453* is a great read about that btw, it flows like a novel.

This would be more fitting to the 1204 sack since the crusaders entered the city through a hole in the wall which was already there due to bad maintenance. The city fell because no one bothered to fix the walls.
