The Indonesian view of the Dutch is pretty weird. When you go there, and go outside the busy cities and tourist areas, people are actually weirdly happy with what the Dutch did. Im dutch, and when I visited, local people constantly THANKED me. Oh, the Dutch made this staircase down to the river that we use to get water, because the waterpump that the Dutch made eventually broke down. Its so great that you did these things for us. I mean, what am I supposed to say? We didnt do that, we made you do that. We made you do it for our benefit. But between the Japanese occupation, and the US anti-communist riots, all the terrible shit the Dutch did during the colonial occupation, and during the police actions, was complete snowed under by stuff that was way worse.
Now do the Japanese occupation after the Dutch.
