As a Christian myself, Im just gonna clarify from the jump that Luther wasnt aiming to start his own church, especially at the start, merely to reform it by trying to make them return to scripture. The Lutheran Church came later down the road when the Catholic Church seemed unwilling to adopt any suggestions of reform. And the Catholic reforms that did take place in the Council of Trent got underway only after Luther was already dead.
