Child appropriate bloodbath

Well the thing is Grimms tales were Folk and childrens fables. Meaning a lot of these stories were also meant to entertain or be directed at adults too. These werent stuff just for children, but tales gathered from people all over 18th century germany. A time were violence, wars and famines were much more common too and to which children were exposed as well. Insofar I do not get why Grimms fables are always picked for this, when similar fable collections from other countries of this time are equally dark. Indeed some like Red Riding Hood or Cinderella are from France IIRC

I always love seeing these Anglosphere-narratives, since in Germany the consensus is that the Grimms massively softened the fairytales when writing them down.

As a German this whole joke about Grimms fairytales is getting so stale tbh. As other commentators have already said, not only are they not THAT bloody for the time- but some fairytales are also folk tales for adults.
