It’s more director who uses history to make an artwork vs reenactors who try to be historically accurate. You cannot judge Shakespeares *Julius Caesar* based upon its historical accuracy, it’s not the point.
Idk the Last Duel was pretty historically accurate, sure the half helmets are stupid but it’s an artistic liberty taken for the viewers to be able to tell the characters apart and be able to convey emotions. Good historical movies need to balance accuracy with “enjoyability” otherwise no one would watch them. Usually this balance is broken, but in the case of Last Duel it was pretty good.
