Some people think that crusaders arrived in the Middle East in European armor that was not suited for the climate and that they suffered from heat stroke while being mowed down by hordes of horse archers. The truth is that both sides in the crusades employed heavily armored cavalry without thinking its out of place. They avoided cooking alive by simply covering their armor with a coat so it doesnt heat up from the sun, and drinking a lot of water.
I mean, a metal cage alone would be a guarantee for heat strokes, but metal on the outside with insulation, lots of water, some ventilation, and enough practise should work just fine. The crusaders went into the Levant with maille and plates but not the full plates (be they of Gothic or Milanese style). I dont remember there being crusades into Arabia proper or the Sahara, or taking place there after the full plates became a thing. Even Arabians or Subsaharan Africans had heavy armour of some sorts, but they never developed the mentioned full plates, likely because it wasnt worth the effort, rather than lack of resources or knowledge. Source: dude, trust me
One of my favourite crusader facts is the knights hospitallers started out wearing black sircoats adorned with white crosses, before changing to red with white cruises for the obvious reason
