About Albert: He used his brother’s influence to lessen work on Jewish laborers by joining them, because Nazi officials couldn’t embarrass Hermann’s younger brother like that. Later in the war, he’d send trucks to concentration camps asking for laborers, just to have those trucks stop in the middle of nowhere to release them and also was a big helper to the Czech resistance. He was tried at Nürnberg and found innocent, though he was arrested by Cezchoslovak authorities, then later released when they found out the extent of what he did. He was ostracized by post-war german citizenry for his last name, he lived out the rest of his life finding odd jobs as a writer or translator. His wife divorced him, and his Czech wife, Mila, took their daughter with her to Lima, Peru. By the end of his life he was living off of a pension. Before his death, he had married his housekeeper out of gratitude, knowing that she would get his pension after death.

Two SS men walking down the street to Albert Göring as they saw him on a balcony: Heil Hitler! Albert Göring: Kiss my ass. -this *actually* happened. Like all people who defied or opposed the Nazis, for whatever reason, I have a massive amount of respect for the guy. Just like Oskar Schindler, absolutely a flawed human being, but when he was given the opportunity to do good, he did.

Seems like a light in the darkness of the Nazi state,
